Hawaii (shirt inventor) dyed, oh

Over the Christmas it's fair to assume you may have missed the news that the inventor the Hawaiian shirt died. His name was Alfred Shaheen and he was the ripe old age of 86. His legacy will live on for even longer though as the Hawaiian shirt is one of those garments that never really goes out of fashion - perhaps because it's never in fashion?

Regardless, in honour of the man and his fantastic design, the latest Company Clothing blog poll concerns the ownership of Hawaiian shirts. It's anonymous, so you can tell the truth, without fear of reprisals. Or you can proclaim your love of the garment to the world and his dog (blog?) in the comments section below. The choice is yours.

If only the Hawaiian shirt would die too. Does anyone ever loko good in one of those things? They should be made illegal.

I strongly disagree, Hawaiian shirts are a design classic. A piece of Americana as important as Rock n' Roll, Levi's, Cadillac, The Electric Guitar, Coke A' Cola and Cheessburgers.

Cool people look good in them, dorks don't

Props to Alfred for inventing the Hawaiian shirt... If such style was never in fashion, then perhaps no one would ever wear one especially in the summer and in tropical countries...

Well this has caused some debate hasn't it? Interesting point, Barry, it is something of an American cultural garment.

Making them illegal? Certainly an interesting idea.

Vanessa - true, they are a staple of the summer wadedrobe, even if some people can't stand the site of them!

What does anyone else out there think?

let's not forget the quality of the shirt itself. regardless of who's wearing them, there are some pretty dreadful hawaiian shirts out there. and some really cool ones. most look better in the sunshine!
